Celebrating 23 Years in Beauty Recruitment
23 Years Strong: Why Experience Counts in Beauty Recruitment
We’re celebrating Arthur Edward’s 23rd anniversary – that’s nearly a quarter of a century in the beauty recruitment game!
This is a major achievement, and we’re reflecting on what it means to be a longstanding player in this dynamic field.
We’ve witnessed, and experienced first-hand, the harsh realities of building a sustainable recruitment business and not only survived but thrived!
The Numbers Don’t Lie
-
- 20% of new businesses do not make it past their first year.
- Almost 60% of small businesses in the UK fail within their first three years.
- And only 33% of those that make it past 3 years, reach the 10-year mark.
In recruitment specifically, many start-ups struggle to survive their first economic downturn. In fact, since 2023 recruitment companies are going bust at the fastest rate in 15 years.
The barriers to entry seem low. The reality is very different.
From the outside, recruitment looks simple. Match talent with opportunities – job done.
In fact, it takes deep knowledge, industry expertise, outstanding people skills, damn hard work, very long hours and a lot of blood, sweat and tears to make it look so easy!
What 23 Years Teaches You

We’ve survived 2 economic crashes, Brexit uncertainty, a global pandemic, a digital revolution and countless industry transformations.
Each challenge reinforced one truth: successful recruitment goes far deeper than making introductions.
- Deep Market Intelligence
The beauty industry is tight-knit. Reputation is everything and relationships are currency.
Our network spans over 40 years, with Heidi’s 15 years working in NPD, sales and marketing within the industry, and 23 years recruiting in the industry. We know who the players are today. More importantly, we understand how they’ve evolved and where they’re heading.
- Employment Law
Beauty brands operate globally. Each market has different employment legislation. Visa requirements vary wildly. Contract terms differ dramatically.
One mistake doesn’t just affect one placement. It can derail an entire talent strategy and damage a business irreparably.
- Data Protection Excellence
GDPR compliance isn’t optional. Database security is non-negotiable. Candidate information is sacred. We invest heavily in systems that protect sensitive data. Career moves, salary expectations, personal details – all completely secure.
This infrastructure takes years to build. And ongoing investment to maintain.
- Succession Planning
Vital for us, as well as the companies we work for. In 23 years the Arthur Edward team has seen engagements, weddings, babies being born and very sadly one funeral.
Losing a team member is not easy when they move on to a new role, but when they die quite suddenly it is not only traumatic and stressful, it can also be damaging to the business.
Thankfully working in recruitment helped prepare us for change and this is how we like to work with our clients. Mapping the market and gathering intelligence, building a talent pool of candidates and knowing who is doing what.
Surviving the Storms
Recruitment is cyclical and often affected by external factors. Economic pressure creates opportunity for new entrants. Talented individuals think: “How hard can it be?”
The answer? Very hard indeed!
During downturns, we’ve seen countless agencies launch with great ambitions. Many don’t survive their first challenging year. Often, they bow out and leave us to console disappointed candidates and support employers who were left with key positions to fill in no time.
Building a recruitment business takes far more than industry contacts. You need robust financial management, comprehensive insurance, sophisticated tracking systems, and bulletproof processes.
Most critically, you need the resilience to maintain service quality when market pressures intensify.
Innovation Through Stability
Arthur Edward has the stability to invest in cutting-edge technology. Market credibility to pilot new approaches with leading brands, and the experience to distinguish genuine innovation from passing trends.
We’ve evolved from traditional headhunting to comprehensive talent solutions. From local placements to global mobility services. From reactive recruitment to strategic workforce planning.
This evolution happened because we built strong foundations that support growth and change.
The Beauty Industry Advantage
The beauty sector continues to evolve rapidly. New categories emerge constantly. Sustainability drives brand strategies. Digital transformation creates exciting new roles.
Our experience positions us perfectly for these changes.
We understand that successful partnerships are built on trust, delivered through expertise and sustained through consistent performance.
Looking Ahead
After 23 years, we’re not looking back with nostalgia. We’re excited about our future.
Ana Filipa who has worked with the business for 10 years is stepping up more and more into a senior leadership role, as Recruitment Director.

Our team of recruiters collaborate closely, with each person specialising in their area. Raelene focusing on Technical, Regulation, Packaging and Perfumery. Emily leading all Marketing and Sales roles. Joe specialising in Technical Sales and Operations.
